The twilight book series was authored by the talented Stephenie Meyer, born in Hartford Connecticut. She concentrated on literature and majored in English at the University of Brigham Young. Now Thirty-six and a mother of three she has been married to Christian Meyer for over ten years. Stephenie Meyer started writing Twilight in 2003, her first published book, it was released by Little Brown and Company in 2005 and subsequently each year after that, New Moon (2006), Eclipse (2007) and Breaking Dawn (2008).
The Twilight series of books is full of vampires, werewolves, sexual and emotional tension, violent confrontations and lore, pulling the reader along right to the end. Our heroine “Bella Swan” narrates with a unique insight at her world. Bella moves to a small town called Forks, Washington; a dreary damp place, where her father lives, Chief Swan. Bella’s mother has recently been married and needs some time to herself and her new spouse, even though Bella gave up her childhood to look after her.
It seems her nurturing role must continue with her father, a likeable character, nevertheless. Entering a new high school was no different for Bella, full of anxiety and insecurities most newbies go through, she finds a savvy friend to educate her on the who’s who of the school in the cafeteria. Soon Bella arouses the attention of Edward Cullen a brooding, pale faced boy, who also happens to be wildly handsome.
.
Fascinated by Edward, Bella watches him and notices things about him others clearly do not. Edward’s rude and aggressive manner serves to intrigue Bella even more, and when he saves her from being hit by a swerving car they both mutually connect, intensely. An intensity that bypasses the obvious differences between them as human and vampire, and letting destiny prevail.
The first book, Twilight, does a good job of introducing characters with seemingly small significance, foreshadowing their roles in later books. Stephenie Meyer has formed an addictive allure to the reader, provocative, intimate and vivid.
Twilight the Movie
For those that have read the book and then watch the film version, feel the characters are different, but are soon taken in by the actors performances. Bella and Edward were portrayed by Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart and Directed by Catherine Hardwicke; given the limitations the film has over the book version, in terms of time scale, the script writers and production team did a great job, along with the superb music score, and special effects. This film gets a definite recommend, especial to those romantic vampire lovers.
New Moon – a taste
